For K&B Partner Yasmeen Mock, Money is a Tool

Kimelman & Baird Partner & Chief Operating Officer, Yasmeen Mock knows that money is simply a tool: to accomplish a goal, to take care of a loved one, and to live the life you want to live.

In her 20-year tenure at K&B, Yasmeen has seen first-hand what can happen when clients work with a trusted advisor whose aim is to develop sound strategies for savings and investments. The goal is to help clients increase their net worth, certainly, but it’s equally to help them define and set out to achieve milestones that might once have seemed daunting or even unreachable.

“Being able to retire early, to help out a friend in trouble, to pay for tuition, to buy your dream home—all those things are made easier when you’re invested the right way and have an advisor you can trust,” she says.

Investment is Personal

For Yasmeen, the importance of working with an advisor and delineating a clear investment strategy is personal, as it is for so many K&B clients. Yasmeen identifies with clients who in their money management are similarly driven by a deeper desire to care for loved ones, achieve financial security, or create opportunities for the next generation. In her work, she is passionate about helping people realize that taking a step that feels risky—i.e., investing their money rather than parking it in a savings account—can start them on a journey toward achieving these goals. “I think that’s a common thing,” says Yasmeen. “People have money that sits in the bank, because that’s what they know and feel comfortable with. But that’s not necessarily the right thing to do.”

Like all of K&B’s advisors, Yasmeen prioritizes developing a relationship with each of her clients, so she can understand the goals, mindsets, and personality traits that drive each individual, and she leverages Goldman Sachs’ FinLife system to help her clients determine their investment personalities, or MoneyMinds. Yasmeen’s happiness-focused MoneyMind informs her own savings and reflects her passion for living life to the fullest each and every day.

A Partner Who Understands You

In her role at K&B, Yasmeen serves on the Investment Committee, where she contributes to the firm’s investment strategy and portfolio construction and is focused to ensuring that K&B’s strategies align with clients’ evolving needs. As Head of Client Relationship Management, she focuses on developing and nurturing close relationships with her clients, so she can provide guidance for each individual and family she works with.

Like each advisor at K&B, Yasmeen begins client relationships with an Honest Conversation® as part of Goldman Sachs’ FinLife® system. Through this comprehensive conversation, Yasmeen works with clients to determine their goals, investment preferences, risk tolerance, and more—and then she works closely with each client to create a personalized investment plan.

“People don’t always know where to get started when it comes to their financial planning,” says Yasmeen. “They may have switched jobs a number of times and have multiple 401(K)s that aren’t working for them. They may be unsure about the appropriate mix of assets for their portfolio. They may have difficulty defining what they want to their legacy to be.”

Ultimately, though, clients don’t need to have everything figured out. “If they don’t know where to get started, that’s ok—that’s where we come in,” says Yasmeen. “Everything is easier when you have an advisor you can trust.”
